My obsession with temperature all started after I installed Eric’s T.C.
Adaptor. I was flushing 8 ounces of water to get to the top end of brew
able temps. In between shots I still needed to flush 6 ounces at least
to keep everything cool enough to brew nice tasting shots. I was using
lot of water, almost a gallon per day. I even have an external tank but
that is another story.
Not only can I see the brew temperature with Eric’s T.C. adaptor,
I can also see what temperature the group was at idle, 220º.
i researched and found about the thermosyphon restrictor that can be
inserted in the thermosyphon to make the group cooler.
I contacted WLL
no luck (long story). I contacted Expobar Spain, they told me to
contact WLL. Once again Eric saves me and convinces me to contact
Expobar Australia. I reluctantly do, totally expecting to be blown off.
A week later, I receive a thermosyphon restrictor in the mail. i did
not change anything setting on the machine. All I did was add the
restrictor to the top tube of the thermosyphon loop.
at 1.1 bar in the boiler and NO RESTRICTOR the group idle temp - 217º - 220º F
-
long flushes (more than 8oz to get down to temp, if idle more than 10 minutes after initial one hour minimum warm up)
- temp seemed less stable
at 1.1 bar in the boiler WITH RESTRICTOR the group idle temp - 209º - 212º F
-
shorter flush to get to temp (about 4oz, if idle more than 20 minutes after initial 1 hour minimum warm up)
- the temp seems more stable
- the dynamic changed a bit on what temp to stop at and what that will give me in the PF.
- the rebound is a bit slower now, but I still haven’t been able to out run it.
I have had this in my machine for one month. It is not going to come
out. I still haven’t changed the p-stat. I don’t plan on it. They only
upgrade I need now is a fluke.
